What a Dance...
Ok...David & I will be celebrating our six anniversary on Saturday...so I've been doing lots of reminiscing (is that how you spell it???) My dear friend Mandy sent me this hilarious video the other day...and I MUST SHARE IT! Just know that this song was THE song that I met Mandy and Cathy to in college :).

My Little Boys Rides Free
He learned to ride his bicycle without training wheels.

I hate to admit this...ok...I didn't BAWL...but I did some crying.
My baby boy. Just look at him....this was...YESTERDAY!

Hayden spent the first part of last week with his Nannie & Pepaw. The boy would live there if he could. He loves to fish and play golf...and that's what he does when he goes to Nannie & Pepaw's house. And he plays with Specka Pepper the weenie dog that I promise must have Pepper blood b/c she is treated like one of my siblings...and I don't remember having a sister growing up... :)
Hayden got a new bike at Nannie & Pepaw's because his old one...well...I think he rode the tires flat. It would not hold air, and Pepaw had already changed the tube once.
Hayden begged Pepaw to take the training wheels off...but Pepaw would not. He told Hayden that his Daddy would do that.
Well evidently the child has already learned how to slip through the back door to get things done. A little boy from across the street rode over while Hayden and Pepaw were on the riding lawnmower. Pepaw says that Hayden got off the lawnmower very quickly...and Pepaw didn't think much of this until....He looked up to find HAYDEN RAY EHLERS riding down the street on this little boys bicycle! ALL BY HIMSELF! See it makes my eyes water now!
I am just a tad bit proud.
He couldn't wait to show me his new talent, and did so at a cafe in Dickins, TX at 8:30 p.m. - DARK. He rode until...he crashed in the soft gravel. Yes. We've had lots of crashes lately.
After we got home he showed David that he could ride (this was at about 10 p.m.), and he rode...until he wiped out in the driveway. Please don't think this holds him back because if he does more than bat an eye we wouldn't notice.
This is the same child that basically taught himself to swim.
Oh. This thought just occurred to me. Please pray for us. The boy has no fear.

Miss Sparkly
Abby is a girly girl. I was not a girly girl...but I LOVE that she is! Her Nannie sent these Dorothy shoes to her...and Abby could not wait to put them on...but look closely to see if you can figure out one small flaw...

Nannie sent two RIGHT shoes. It mattered not to Abby Kay. She insisted on wearing them anyway. Full-blooded woman.

A Mother's proudest moment
When I picked up Abby & Hayden today one of their teachers met me at the gate.
I shall pause now to let you brace yourself...fore this is what I did.
I shall spare you the laundry list, but what topped the list was this...
Hayden told one of his teacher's...who is evidently pregnant...that she was indeed NOT pregnant...she was just fat.
Yes. It was with great pride & joy that I loaded this offspring of mine who did insult a pregnant teacher into my vehicle.
A mother's proudest moment.

Post-Halloween
I've been trying to blog about Halloween - like any good mother - all day. Unfortunately, there's something quirky going on with the relationship between my router and my modem. Can't quite put my finger on which is being fickle...but one is.
Nonetheless...my modem and router are on good terms for the moment so here I am.
We had quite a dandy Halloween, and David was able to come home to be a part of Hayden & Abby's night. We trick or treated at Happy Trails, Grandma & Grandpa's, and then met up with the McGehee's and rode on the trailer to trick or treat through the neighborhood. The kids LOVED it! :)
You can see by the photos that Abby and Hayden were quite the happy ones in their Princess and Race car Driver suits. Just know, however, that Hayden thought he was a Race Car...not a Race Car Driver.
We met David over at his Mom & Dad's ...where we saw Chelsea & Courtney too. Chelsea was a brian surgeon (hmmm...makes me think of mcdreamy), and Courtney was a Pirate. Brenan, Kolton and Keely also stopped by, but i didn't get a picture of them...and I hate that b/c they all had pink hair. They must use the same shampoo. ;)

Yes. He is riding his bike with no wheels. I promise to post about this asap...but David just walked in from the field, and I must hurry & finish.

Reghan joined us after Volleyball practice. Cooper invited their students to dress up for Halloween (quite risky if you ask me...but no one did). So Regh dressed up like a baby and looked quite cute, and I'm sure she was quite comfy too.

Rhyan donned a 'fro and went as rocker...or something like that. He planned to wear his wig with an Elvis outfit that we had purchased the night before...but that outfit turned out to be a wee bit small in the lower half. And the reason I mention THIS fact is we stood in the Halloween store slipping the outfit on over his shirt...and youngman worker came over and TRIED to repremand me! Seriously. But the boy would never clarify himself. He came over and said, "Yeah, we really don't like you taking stuff out of the packages unless you really don't have to. We have dressing rooms over there," as he pointed to the far corner of the store. So I then say to him, "Oh...so we can take them over and try them on?" With a nice parental-I'm-setting-the-example-smile. "No. Not really. We'd rather you not do that."
WELL GOOD GRIEF. Why did he even mention the dressing rooms then? It took all I HAD not to drip with sarcasm and the Essay blood that I have...and I may have turned it on a little...but PLEASE...there is a no return policy in the store.
Needless to say...we only tried on the top. Not the bottoms. So ... Elvis was shelved, and a twisted Micheal Jackson from the big-hair days was brought to life. Um...I say twisted b/c this Micheal Jackson donned the doo...but was very fair skinned like now in his later life.

At any rate...
We had quite the time last night...and then ... thanks to my friend Julie...the Great Pumpkin came to life. Wonderful idea. Yes. We dumped all our candy into a bucket and left it for the Great Pumpkin to come and trade out for a "prize".
Hey.
It was a dandy...and as you can see from the photo below...it sure beats the current visits we've been making to my dear friend Kelly...who also happens to be a dentist.

Hayden is a most wonderful patient...amazing really. He just lays there like a big boy. Still...the race car that The Great Pumpkin brought is hands down better than having EIGHT TEETH FILLED. (Yes. that is correct. I promise you that this is partly due to the DNA that the boy inherited from me b/c I had ten million cavities...and i ALWAYS took better care of my teeth...especially better than my brother Jarred...and he had NO cavities.)
SO...Happy Halloween...and back to the events of the day.
Abby & Hayden were tired today. They needed a nap. I TRIED to make them take a nap...and generally this usually fails. And it failed again today. I will spare you the details b/c it mostly involved me praying for grace when they WOULD NOT lay down.
A
Oh...but they DID fall asleep...at 5:30 p.m. when we drove to the farm to take Rhyan to work with David and fed all the Stripping crew. (and Seriously if you shook your head at that...we are cotton farmers. We strip. Well. David does. I don't. I just carry around $1 bills. KIDDING)
I have yet to reach the best part of the day. So please read on.
We managed to get home (Me, Abby, Hayden & Reghan...who is learning to be quite the navigator), get baths, watch tv & get in bed. I rebooted the modem & router...and THE TIME HAD COME. I could post...like all good mother's...about Halloween.
Oh. Not so.
I began to peck the keyboard and I hear Hayden crying. I know to jump when Hayden cries in the night b/c Hayden has always been the child to hurl in our family. I was so hypnotized, however by the internet working that i did not, indeed, jump.
I met him in the hallway as fluids were lurching out of his body. And like any former little league champion (I was the one to hit a homerun over the fence..and yes i am a girl and i played with a host of boys). Like any former baseballer, I reached out to CATCH. As if I would catch anything.
So not only did my poor baby throw up all over the hallway...i tried to catch it in my hand there by drenching my hand so i couldn't immediately snatch him up and head to the potty.
He ran in his half-sleep and I guided and he threw up again. We rinsed his mouth off...wiped him down...and now he is sleeping in my bed. Don't ask. I am a glutten for punishment but HE IS MY baby boy and i need to keep my eye on him. He did get full instructions on leaning over into the trashcan, however.
Now, mind you...i didn't have shoes on at the time...so my toes are curling at this point...
After I had Hayden taken care of...I returned to the aftermath. Joy. I had asked Hayden if he had thrown up in his bed and he told me "No."
He did not, in fact, throw up in his bed.
He threw up on his way down the slide from the top of the bed. Praise God that Abby Kay slept through every second of not only the episode but the clean-up. The "meat" and i do mean that literally of the mess was at the bottom of the slide wedged in between the slide and the nice cream colored carpet.
So. Here I am. I smell like clorox-cleanup with bleach. But I am here posting about Halloween...like all good mothers did today.
Happy Halloween.
